Mia Larson, professor of business administration at CTF and Karlstad Business School at Karlstad University, is one of the authors behind a newly published article where she, together with other researchers, have studied the use of the cultural concepts of “fika” and “hygge” in destination marketing. "The concept of fika has existed in Sweden for about 100 years. It is used by Swedes as a common expression for drinking coffee accompanied by something sweet.

In November, three new distance courses with focus on business models, servitization and value creation through service will start. They are developed for professionals and are given by CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University. The five credit courses are developed to suit professionals where work and studies can be combined. They will run part-time and are free of charge. The course participants will take part of theoretical and practical knowledge.

Karlstad Business School has qualified for a final review by AACSB, a non-profit organisation that works with quality enhancement and accreditation of business schools around the world. The review will be performed in connection with a site visit late 2020 or early 2021. “I am incredibly proud of the quality development towards accreditation that we have achieved together over the last few years,” says Martin Löfgren, Head of Department at Karlstad Business School.

We are happy to welcome Dr. Jakob Trischler to CTF. Jakob recently joined CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, as a postdoctoral researcher. Originally from Austria, he completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at the Management Center Innsbruck. After moving to Australia, Jakob completed his PhD at Southern Cross University in 2015.

On December 3, Jan Wallander and Tom Hedelius Foundation, and the Tore Browaldh's Foundation announced 20 new recipients of the Wallander Scholarship for outstanding doctoral dissertations. Research on the role of packaging in preventing food waste

The goal in Agenda 2030 is for global food waste in the entire food chain to be reduced by half. Researchers at CTF are working to develop, communicate and disseminate new knowledge that can support producers, service providers and consumers in this effort. Fredrik Wikström and Helén Williams have done research for many years on issues related to the environment and sustainability, and the role of packaging in reducing food waste.

The project Smart and Safe brings together the public sector, businesses, academia and civil society in a helix model to create safer public environments for children and young people with the help of the Internet of Things (IoT). Research is conducted by the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University. Complex societal challenges require complex solutions, such as technical systems based on IoT.

Researchers at CTF have been granted 5.3 million SEK for research on energy-efficient commuting. The main financer of the project is the Swedish Energy Agency. In the project, researchers Lars E. Olsson and Margareta Friman both active at CTF, Service Research Center and Samot, The Service and Market Oriented Transport Research Group at Karlstad University, will develop new knowledge and methods for energy-efficient travel.

This is according to the Swedish Innovation Index, a new index which focuses on innovation from the customers’ perspective, developed by researchers at CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, Sweden.
