Language teacher Lise Iversen Kulbrandstad was appointed honorary doctor at the Teacher Education, Karlstad University in 2017. She has also served as a guest professor in the research groups ROSE, Research on Subject-specific Education and CSL, Center for Language and Literature Education.

Tue 21/9, 13.15–15.00, ISLI PhD student seminar. New PhD student Denny Jansson presents preliminary research plans for his dissertation project.
”Everyone clapped because they were expected to”, is the title of the C-essay which won the 2019 Essay Award presented by the Region West HR Association. The authors are Emma Hammarberg and Fanny Olsson, who studied the Human Resource Management and Working Life programme at Karlstad Business School.
The winning essay in HR studies centres on organisation culture and loyalty. The jury’s citation was, among other things, that the essay is valuable for the HR profession.
Lennart Andersson was Vice-Chancellor of Karlstad University College and Professor of Human Geography. When Lennart Andersson retired in 1994, a foundation was established in his honour to fund an annual seminar. The foundation was intended to make it possible to invite prominent researchers in Lennart Andersson’s own field, Human Geography. The seminar was going to be open for everyone.

Kinneret Lahad, an associate professor of Women’s Studies at Tel Aviv University, is internationally recognized for her sociological research on singlehood and temporality. Her influential work includes the book A table for one: A critical reading of singlehood, gender, and time (2017), where she notably challenges the heteronormative conventions about singlehood and time.

I call my PhD project “The scientific artist”. In this project, I explore contemporary hybrid art, and its heteromedial implications. Several contemporary writers and artists are experimenting with the breakdown and mixing of the classic disciplinary categories. These experiments question our perception of the different languages and media we face today.

While emotions have been a long-standing topic within feminist discussions of men and masculinities, the last decade has seen a growing interest, theoretically and empirically, in research on affect and emotion within CSMM.
Karlstad University has appointed three new honorary doctors. One of them is Brian Hudson, Emeritus Professor of Education and former head of The School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sussex. He has worked closely with teacher education-related research at Karlstad University since 2015, particularly with the strong research group Rose, a multidisciplinary research environment with a special interest in subject didactics – learning and teaching in subjects.

The company Askås introduced itself to around 70 IT students at Karlstad University during a Snits lunch on 21 February. Peter Smersfeldt, HR director and in charge of customer services gave a talk about the company, its e-commerce system and the underlying technology.
Askås celebrates a 20-year anniversary in 2017. Twenty years ago the entrepreneur Jonas Askås started to develop an e-commerce system to sell bicycle components.

Week 43 coincides with both UNESCO’s Global MIL Week and SPARC’s Open Access Week. To highlight this, the University Library is organising three events. Two of them require registration, one by 17 October and one by 20 October at the latest.
First up is a film screening followed by a talk with the director, in the afternoon Tuesday 24 October. The film will be shown at Filmstaden in central Karlstad and is organised together with Region Värmland.
