The emergence of the new EU Artificial Intelligence (AI) Act underscores the importance of taking a 'Human Rights by Design' (HRbD) approach when developing AI-based systems. For instance, the AI Act stipulates the use of Human Rights Impact Assessments (HRIAs) carried out at the onset of high-risk digital initiatives, e.g. health and social care.
How do I read e-books?All our e-books can be read online without logging in or using special programs. If you would like to make notes, print or download you may also need to create a personal account with the vendor.Outside campus students and employees need to login with their KauID to use the e-books.E-books come in different formats, the most common are PDF or EPUB. Both formats can be open or copyrighted.
A small group of pioneering founders led the creation and early evolution of the service research field. A new article in Journal of Service Management provides service wisdom from ten of those pioneering founders, me being one of them.
Professors David Bowen and Ray Fisk specified three criteria by which to identify a pioneering founder. In total, 12 founders met the criteria were invited to join Bowen and Fisk.

The Grants and Innovation Office (GIO) supports individual researchers and research groups at Karlstad University in developing external funding strategies, as well as working with the personal and professional development of research staff.

Lately, there have been reports in the media worldwide about security flaws in Zoom. However, the section of Zoom provided by Karlstad University’s supplier SUNET is not affected by these security flaws to the same extent.
“Employees and students at Karlstad University can feel safe when using Zoom,” says Monika Allöv Andersson, responsible for the Zoom service at Karlstad University IT Department.
The introduction of new technologies such as machine learning and big data analytics requires new skills in employees and often new ways of working. It also enables new business models, such as MaaS (Manufacturing as a Service), which builds on lean principles and the adaptive smart factories of the future.
Welfare services are intended to provide care, aid, and support to individuals in need. However, and in spite of well-meaning intentions, support is sometimes experienced as patronizing, misplaced, or an abuse of power. In the current era of New Public Management (NPM), service users are seen as customers and the demands for measurable outcomes rise. Now more than ever, we need to understand the problematic sides of power relations that operate within the welfare state.
Siri Jagstedt is a senior lecturer in Business Administration at Karlstad Business School, where she teaches industrial management and engineering. She now joins CTF to conduct research related to digitalisation and servitization.
Hello Siri! Welcome to CTF! Can you tell us about your background?
– I received my PhD from Chalmers with a thesis on the economy and organisation of technology.
Education should be based on a scientific foundation and proven experience. This constitutes one of the cornerstones in the Higher Education Act (SFS, 1992:1434, 1 chapter §2) as well as in the Education Act (SFS, 2010:800, 1 chapter §5). However, the exact meanings of these concepts are not always clear and are interpreted differently by professionals (Bergmark & Hansson, 2021). During practicum periods, students encounter and develop proven experience.

Anna-Lena Almqvist was born and raised in Umeå, where she also completed her PhD following a bachelor’s degree in sociology at Stockholm University.
Her doctoral thesis focused on how families combine work and childcare in five European countries. She recently started her employment at Karlstad University.
"My most current research focuses on people in vulnerable life situations. It is about bringing their experiences to the fore.
As a nurse, you have a vital role in the healthcare system, where you help people to improve their health. You meet people of all ages, in all stages of life. Our degree programmes provide the professional knowledge and expertise needed to care for people in need of health care.

- The Bachelor’s programme in IT, Project Management and ERP Systems from 2018 to 2020, and the Master’s programme in Information Systems from 2020 to 2022.
