During friday the June 3rd second- and third year students from the Technology programme and Electricity programme at the upper secondary school Brogårdsgymnasiet visited us at the Information System department.

On 1 November 2024, Karlstad University welcomed a new professor as Sofia Wijkmark was appointed professor of comparative literature.
"It feels very exciting! I’m mostly looking forward to having more time for research," she says.
"There are a number of projects that I would like to dedicate more time to, and now I finally have the opportunity to do so," says Sofia.

May 11 Prof. Pettersson and Malin Wik visited Trinity College in Dublin.
Ass. prof. Gavin Doherty, one of the principle investigator of WebWOZ, showed around and presented the utilization of WebWOZ in studies of interaction design. The Irish group has developed this system for Wizard-of-Oz prototyping for language-based applications and has also made a comparative study of such prototyping for other kinds of systems.

Associate Professor John Bonner in Huddersfield developed several Wizard-of-Oz setup together with the then doctoral researcher Andol Li and is now interested in how lectures and other events can be developed with video and sound support.

Digital services and platforms were in focus when CTF and Cambridge Service Alliance held a seminar at Cambridge University. Researchers and industrial partners presented current projects and future challenges. It was a successful event where academia and practitioners met to exchange experiences and insights.

Part of Information Systems visited Nursing Science and their Clinical Centre.
On Wednesday the 8th of June, Malin Wik, John Sören Pettersson, Bridget Kane and Henrik Andersson visited Nursing Science and their Clinical Centre. Anders Sidenblad, Nursing teacher and doctoral student at IMH at Linköpings university, hosted a demonstration of their training mannequin.
The Clinical Centre trains students in clinical decision making using a realistic mannequin.

In the beginning of the new year 2015, the usability lab was visited by Jenny Friedl and Lars Eriksson from the Psychology department at Karlstad University. Discussions about collaboration between Psychology and Information Systems in course assignments and students' project works. The meeting started by Prof. John Sören Pettersson and lab assistant Malin Wik visiting the psychologists' lab.

Johan Quist, researcher at CTF, has been appointed Associate Professor of Business Administration at Karlstad Business School at Karlstad University. His research interests revolve around how the public sector can be better, more relevant and appropriate.
Johan Quist does research in the public sector, with focus on service logic.

Lucia Casap from Academy of Economic Study of Moldova visits Information Systems for three weeks in june 2015.
Lucia's research study bears the provisional title “E-Governance: Harmonization of education information systems in Moldova by implementing EMIS”. EMIS is Education Management Information Systems. For her trip to Sweden she has received a Japanese scholarship administrated by UNESCO. Next year she plans to stay for two months.

In a recent compilation of scientists who contributed the most to New Service Development, by publishing several empirical studies about specific key issues in the field, five CTF researchers are found in the top-20-list of the most published researchers in the world in the area.

InfoCert are conducting user evaluations on their LegalMail pilot demonstrator within the project, while Karlstad University develops and tests user interfaces for the general CREDENTIAL Wallet functions.

Their visit is based on the need to improve energy supply in Africa and to develop training on smart grids.

We welcome PhD Student Christoph Peters from Kassel University in Germany. He will be visiting us until October 4.
Christoph Peters is a PhD Student at Kassel University where he works at the Chair of Information Systems led by Prof. Dr. Jan Marco Leimeister.
Christoph’s main research interests are service modularization and service modeling of complex services, i.e. they consist of person-oriented as well as IT service parts.

In August Ph D Nancy Sirianni, Assistant Professor of Marketing at Northeastern University, USA, visited CTF. The purpose of her visit was to work on a project within the research profile SISB together with Tetra Pak.

CTF is located in at level 3 in building 11 at Karlstad University. Karlstad University is situated in an area just outside the city centre. It can easily be reached by bicycle, bus, train or car.
BY BUS
Bus no 1 is a direct bus to the university running every ten minutes to and from the city centre for the major part of the day. Also buses no 2, 3 and 52 stop at the university along with several regional and long-distance buses and coaches.
Anne-Maria and Gustaf Ander Foundation for Media Research continues to support CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University. The research center will receive 1,3 million SEK for the period 2014-2017.
The money will be used to fund two Visiting Professorships during the next three years at CTF. The Visiting Professors are: Thorsten Gruber, Loughborough University, UK, and Stephen L.

In House 11, Erik Wästlund is just finishing a Zoom meeting on research funding. He is new as professor of psychology, but a familiar face in the university corridors.
– I started studying psychology here in 1996, he says.
– Back in those days it was mostly because I wanted to do something more besides my job working in a bar. But pretty soon my studies became more important than my work. Psychology was not a given choice.
