Karlstad University is participating in the first phase of the ten-year Vinnväxt initiative ”Paper Province 2.0: A large-scale demonstrator of forest based bioeconomy” led by the cluster organisation the Paper Province. The aim of the initiative is to create sustainable growth by developing internationally competitive and attractive research and innovation environments in the region.
The Embedded-nätverket Värmland/Dalsland arranged a network seminar where Sebastian Herold, researcher in Computer Science at Karlstad University, presented the project REVaMP2 (Round-trip Engineering and Variability Management Platform and Process).
REVaMP2 is a European collaboration with more than twenty partners from academia and industry.

Part of the examination task at the course “Advanced service management” at Karlstad Business School is making a poster on your work, like the ones at research conferences. This is a way for the students to show their knowledge- and a way to use research methods in this master's programme.
As previously, all posters were put on display all around the Business school, building 11.

In recent years, prices of traditional subscription-based journals have increased dramatically and access to scientific content has become a question of resources.
The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Northern Europe is an action-oriented network that mobilizes Nordic scientific and technological expertise to promote integrated approaches to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement.
Its particular focus is on localizing the SDGs, teaching sustainable development and supporting their implementation, in particular through Solution Initiatives and Long-term Pathways.
The History research seminar is the main forum for historical discussion at the Department of History at Karlstad University. Researchers and PhD students at the department present their research, and we also invite guests from other universities, nationally and internationally. Seminars are held in Swedish or English. Most are open events, welcoming staff and Master students as well as local historians and professionals outside academia.

"I’m working on my thesis and reading documents from the old school boards. I’m looking at how school reforms between the years 1950 and 1968 were handled and implemented at the local level."
Why is this particular period interesting?
"During the period 1950 to 1968, one of the largest school reforms to date was implemented in Sweden.

A new study in the SELMA project at Karlstad University, Sweden, shows that flooring material of soft PVC in the home is a source for uptake of phthalates in pregnant women, phthalates that are considered dangerous in the EU chemical regulation system.
PVC flooring often contain phthalates to make the plastic soft.

The panel aims to present research at Lund University’s Gender Studies Department on the regulation of sexuality and gender expressions, both imposed from above and as activist initiatives defining the boundaries for acceptable sexual behaviour and claiming the right of defining one’s own sexuality, gender expression, identity formation and bodily integrity.
Loredana Sundberg Cerrato from Dublin gave an intriguing seminar on February 10, 2016.
Loredana, who also presented the ADAPT centre in Dublin this day (see post on the web pages of Information Systems), gave an in-depth view on research on dialogue supporting machine translation between languages for the HCI group and Master students.

Cristian Hernandez Benet, doctoral student in Computer Science at Karlstad University, has been awarded the prize Best Paper Award at the IEEE CloudNet conference, a large international conference focused on cloud networks in Coimbra, Portugal, that took place 4-6 November.
“The most prominent cloud network researchers in the world gather for this conference, so Cristian has received this prize in keen competition.
