Four students on the Master of Science in Engineering programme helped to develop Dysconnect, an app with podcast dramas that enhance the listening experience through interactive effects. The app was presented for the first time to the public at a cultural festival in Scotland over the weekend.

Two Bachelor thesis-students have gotten abstracts accepted to the student conference RAMI Healthcare Informatics in Dublin and one thesis student at B level is working in a research project at Trinity College in Dublin during the summer.

You can now submit proposals for sessions for FEKIS 2024 in Karlstad.
The theme for this year’s conference is: Renewal and democracy in a disruptive world.
Three proposed types of sessions:
Presentation – Generally 2–4 people presenting relevant research, teaching methods or something else of relevance to the discipline of Business Administration, and which preferably is tied to the theme of the conference.

Special education has its scientific basis in a number of different subjects, such as pedagogy, medicine, psychology and sociology. Central issues concern the relationship between the organisation of special educational activities in the light of democratic and participatory principles, on the one hand, and marginalisation and stigmatisation, on the other.

The Grants and Innovation Office (GIO) has access to the VFT funding programme through its involvement with the innovation office Fyrklövern. On the basis of a competitive application, the university receives an annual grant from this Vinnova programme.
This funding can be used to verify innovative ideas that might benefit the world in the form of new businesses, licensing, and so forth. It cannot be used to finance research.

Karlstad University and its partners in the private sector have received funding from the Knowledge Foundation for two research projects, TRUEdig and AMHiPP. TRUEdig investigates how businesses that develop privacy-enhancing services also can increase users’ security and sense of empowerment. AMHiPP will develop the microstructure of different materials to ensure maximal strength and sustainability.

Can the patient journey through healthcare be changed? How are patients treated and why? In a new doctoral thesis, Josina Vink has studied the patient journey and how it can be redesigned. She believes it is not only the physical details that are important when changing the patient journey, but also the whole structure of healthcare, the norms, behaviors and rules.
A large part of care that patients receive today at healthcare centers can equally well be given at home.

The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) Northern Europe is an action-oriented network that mobilizes Nordic scientific and technological expertise to promote integrated approaches to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Paris Agreement.
Its particular focus is on localizing the SDGs, teaching sustainable development and supporting their implementation, in particular through Solution Initiatives and Long-term Pathways.
