There was strong demand for places at the 11th International IFIP Summer School on Privacy and Identity held in Karlstad, Sweden last month thanks to recent changes in EU data protection regulations and the emergence of smart Big Data.
Around 90 people attended the interdisciplinary program, which ran from 21-26 August, focusing on data protection and information privacy from technical, legal, ethical, HCI and industrial perspectives.

The fifth edition of Karlstad programming contest is arranged at 8 October by Computer Science at Karlstad University. The contest is part of the Nordic championship, Nordic Collegiate Programming Contest.
The contest takes place in teams with up to 3 persons who shall solve a dozen tasks with programming in C, C++, C#, Go, Java, Objective-C or Python.

Developments in technology enable the construction of cheap and accurate emergency sensors. These sensors can provide improved ground truth for models or quantitative evidence to check against trends in social media.

This seminar will look at social media from three perspectives: crisis twittering among citizens, tourists' communication in crisis, and municipality communication in crisis. After the seminar there will be time for continued discussion.

Henrietta Huzell, director at CTF and lecturer of working life science at Karlstad University, will be the new vice dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Karlstad University.
- It is a fun assignment with big responsibility which I am looking forward to. Four fantastic years at CTF has given me the courage and desire to take on more responsibility. I am also glad that CTF’s former director, Patrik Larsson, is the dean.

Martin Ljungdahl presents results from a research project conducted jointly by University Väst and Konstfack (after defending his Magister thesis 1PM about the development method in this project).
The research project is about the effects of a sound system where unwanted sounds a reduced and "good" sounds from the environment is enhanced by digital technology.
