Student teachers receive international exchange online
The International Project, the IPC project, enables student teachers to meet online to exchange experiences in an international perspective without having to study abroad during parts of their education. At the end of June, teacher education researchers from all over the world gather within the IPC project at Karlstad University for their annual conference.
Student mobility and studying abroad plays a marginal role in the individual experience of teacher students. Studies show that teacher students’ interest, volition, and motivation to gain international experience is lower compared to students enrolled into other study programs.

Swedes experience a decrease in innovativeness after the pandemic according to the Swedish Innovation Index
The capacity for innovation has decreased according the latest results by the Swedish Innovation Index where the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University asked thousands of customers to rank the innovativeness of Swedish companies, organisations and authorities. Ikea is seen as the most innovative Swedish company, whereas Lyko ranks at the top in terms of digitalisation, which is an important factor in the way innovativeness is perceived by the customer.
This is the fourth time that the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University presents the Swedish Innovation Index to demonstrate the innovativeness of companies, organisations and authorities from a customer perspective.

Full house 13–14 June
On 13–14 June, Karlstad University hosts Framtidens Lärande Väst (Future Learning West). The event is fully booked, which means that more than 2,000 people will be attending. Note: We recommend that you bring your own lunch box and that you bear in mind that the parking area might be busy. Two rows of the parking area north of the library are reserved for the 2-day event.
How can municipalities, schools and teachers create successful school development in a digital age? And how can research contribute? These are examples of some of the issues that will be discussed 13–14 June when teachers and school heads, researchers, teacher educators and actors from all over the country meet at Karlstad University.

A book about journalistic autonomy wins prestigious award
Henrik Örnebring and Michael Karlsson, both professors in media and communication studies, have won the 2023 Tankard Book Award.

- Independence, or autonomy as we refer to it in the book, is a key ideal in journalism, says Michael Karlsson. That is true in Sweden as well as abroad.

REAL – training for future research leaders
In a joint initiative between Karlstad University, Mälardalen University, Mid Sweden University and Linnaeus University, future research leaders are trained in the leadership programme REAL, Research Leader Initiative Programme. The course equips future research leaders with important lessons, and facilitate exchanges of experiences across subject and university boundaries.
The purpose of the REAL leadership programme is to introduce leadership in a research context, in preparation for future assignments as research leaders. The participants have been selected through a nomination process internally at each faculty.

Edge Computing – an emerging research field
Edge computing is one of the drivers for future industries and a fundamental component in 5G networks, says Professor Javid Taheri. He has recently published a reference book on the subject, Edge Intelligence: From Theory to Practice. The book provides a valuable introduction to a nascent field of research.
