Researchers at the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University have been assigned to identify the initiatives and measures that have led to less food being thrown away in restaurants and school kitchens, retail, and households.
The courses are part of ISE Graduate Professional Development Programme and the idea behind the courses is to help companies and employees gain more knowledge about how to develop more sustainable services that create value for customers. The initiative is led by the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University.
High employee proactivity can, for example, compensate for delays in customer service situations and thereby mitigate the negative effects of waiting.
Employee proactivity has been discussed as a key factor in company success and organisational performance.

- Thanks. I am a PhD student in business administration and researching food waste at the Business School and The Service Research Centre (CTF) and took my master's degree at the Business school and was very satisfied with my education. I felt that the teachers have a good grasp of the situation, especially when it comes to the market.
Tell us about your current research
- My research is developing knowledge about digitization practices and its consequences to users, organizations and society as well as the design and visualizations for the development of digital practices, resources and artifacts.
In the study ”Managing the Complexity of Green Innovation” authors Andrey Abadzhiev, Alexandre Sukhov, Antti Sihvonen and Mikael Johnson have examined how this complexity can be managed by analyzing how individual companies combine different innovation activities to develop green innovation, and how companies along the value chain align to implement these innovations.
Green innovation can promote both environmental sustainability and economic growth.
Reuse and other circular solutions are becoming increasingly common in the retail business to enable more sustainable consumption. To promote this transition requires more knowledge on how companies can create better conditions and customer experiences in relation to circular retail.
Great interest in increased autonomy and room for action for managers and employees.

Björn Smith, tell us about your background
- I spent the most recent years completing a degree in primary education, school years 4–6. I have also been lecturing at Karlstad University - mainly administrative law and local government law as well as jurisprudence and EU law to some extent. I really enjoyed working as a teacher and learned a lot.

The capacity for innovation has decreased according the latest results by the Swedish Innovation Index where the Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University asked thousands of customers to rank the innovativeness of Swedish companies, organisations and authorities.
Jan Ch Karlsson, Professor of Working Life Science at Karlstad Business School, and his German colleague and collaboration partner have been given an award for their article “Towards a Sociology of Meaningful Work”.
– Work that includes a lot of negative stress or rigid hierarchies is actually lethal, says Jan Ch Karlsson.
Why is research about meaningful work so important?
– Most people spend a large portion of their lives and their waking hours working.

The symposium started 2011 in London with an initiative of Professor Patrick E. Murphy, Mendoza College of Business, University of Notre Dame, Notre Dame, USA, specializes in marketing and business ethics.
The symposium has been hosted by several Universities/ Business schools around Europe and USA.
