Hello there Henryk Stawicki, PhD student in Business Administration
2025-02-03Henryk, could you briefly tell us about your background before joining Karlstad Business School and the Service Research Center (CTF)?
– I have over 20 years of work experience from Lodz in Poland, New York, Stockholm, and London, with over ten years dedicated to service design. For eight years, I led Change Pilots, a Polish consulting firm described as a "Provider of Positive Change in Business" in the report Positive Impact Startups (Kozminski, 2021).
– As an academic, I have 8 years of teaching experience and 5 years of supervising bachelor's theses at the School of Form in Warsaw. I have also contributed as a lecturer, Industry Leader, and member of the Program Steering Committee at Hyper Island in Sweden, where I was involved in the Sustainability Leadership Change Program. Additionally, I am a guest lecturer at several universities in Poland and Sweden.
– I hold an MSc in Strategic Design and Management from Parsons School of Design, New York, and an MSc in Management and Marketing from the University of Lodz. I have also been responsible for the DtB Sustainability Summit, an annual conference in Gdynia focused on sustainability-driven innovation as business value.
Tell us about the research you will be conducting with us
– My research will focus on the role of service design in facilitating the transition to a circular economy. I aim to explore how circular economy principles can be integrated into service design practices, considering circular solutions and business models - the details are still being refined.
– I am particularly interested in understanding the role of service designers in this transition and examining the barriers and drivers that influence the adoption of circular products and services from both consumer and management perspectives. Or, in other words, why some people still think single-use plastic is a good idea.
What are your expectations of starting with Karlstad Business School and CTF?
– I look forward to a community of diverse, inspiring, and passionate individuals where I can learn and contribute meaningfully. I value transparent communication, a culture of mutual support, and opportunities for collaboration. Above all, I look forward to the possibility of unexpected coffee breaks spiced with dry humor.
Tell us briefly about yourself
– I am a rather calm person with a scientific mind and a passion for sustainability and nature. Balancing deep work with small coffee breaks to socialize with colleagues is important to me. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, cycling in the countryside, and exploring Nordic nature – I still have much to discover. In academia, I appreciate teaching, supervision, and taking a strategic and systemic approach to service design. I am also a yoga teacher, long-distance runner, and triathlete.
