    A book about journalistic autonomy wins prestigious award

    REAL – training for future research leaders

    In a joint initiative between Karlstad University, Mälardalen University, Mid Sweden University and Linnaeus University, future research leaders are trained in the leadership programme REAL, Research Leader Initiative Programme. The course equips future research leaders with important lessons, and facilitate exchanges of experiences across subject and university boundaries.

    The purpose of the REAL leadership programme is to introduce leadership in a research context, in preparation for future assignments as research leaders. The participants have been selected through a nomination process internally at each faculty.

    Research Project on Forest-Based Bioeconomy Makes IVA’s 100 List

    The research on more energy efficient paper manufacturing processes – headed by Björn Sjöstrand – was selected for the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences’ (IVA) the 100 list of 2023. This year’s list emphasises research projects related to climate change transformation, energy production, welfare technology, cyber security and crisis preparedness.

    – I feel very honored that my research is on this year’s list, says Björn Sjöstrand, Associate Professor of Chemical Engineering at Karlstad University. I’m excited about representing forest industry research and Pro2BE at Karlstad University at such a significant international platform, as well as about networking possibilities and potential opportunities for more support in from IVA on future projects.

    Karlstad University starts a new master's program

    Karlstad University receives grant of 2 million SEK from the Knowledge Foundation to develop a high in-demand Master’s programme in data-driven mechanical engineering.

    - There is an increasing demand for this type of programme, says Anton Tkachuk, Lecturer in Mechanical Engineering and project manager in the development of the Master’s programme. The challenge is to create a degree programme that addresses areas such as data-driven approach and digitalisation tools.

    Karlstad University joins CoARA

    On 22 May, Acting Vice-Chancellor, Margareta Friman, signed an agreement that Karlstad University joins CoARA, the Coalition for Advancing Research Assessment.

    CoARA was established at the initiative of the European Commission together with Science Europe and the European University Association. The objective is to reform the research assessment system and create an international consensus so that researchers do not get caught between the requirements and priorities of different systems. For example, one system may reward open access publications, while another system rewards publications in a limited number of high-status channels.
