Education
Risk management refers to the architecture itself (principles, frameworks and processes) for managing the risks surrounding accidents and disasters in the best possible way. Risk management as a science studies the theory and practice of risk management, and aims to develop knowledge about different risks, as well as methodology and evidence regarding analysis and management. The future aspect includes a sustainability perspective taking into account the conditions of nature. Studies on society's risk management are here associated with threats to life, health, environment, property and societal functions. The education is interdisciplinary and aims to make you develop a broad understanding of the management of accident-related risks and peacetime crisis situations in society. The content and pedagogical form of the education program takes its starting point in different future professional roles and is characterized by the research of the teachers at the Center for Research on Societal Risks at Karlstad University.
Form of Instruction
The education involves full-time studies and is given remotely, with a few campus meetings (about 2-3 per semester). Scheduled daytime distance learning, in the form of lectures and webinars, occurs to varying degrees in the courses. The individual courses are usually half-time, which means that you study two different courses in parallel.A campus meeting lasts 1-3 days with teaching in the courses that are currently in progress.
Distance learning is problem-oriented and flexible. You solve the assignments in writing, but often also have the opportunity to discuss them in seminars.
Examination
The form of examination varies between courses. Both written and oral examinations are available and usually include assignments, group work, project work and active participation in seminars.Professional Contact
Collaborations with various public and private organizations on degree projects are encouraged and are common.Course of study
