Research
I have a teaching degree from the University of Münster, Germany (subjects: Geography and Education), and I am currently completing my Ph.D research in Educational Psychology. During my PhD, I have been investigating teacher judgment accuracy in the classroom and factors that can foster (or hinder) accurate teacher judgments. To pursue this aim, I integrated and applied theoretical and methodological approaches that have been widely applied in the Social and Personality Psychology research domains, but so far rarely have been used to investigate teacher judgment accuracy, such as for instance Brunswik’s lens model.
At Karlstads University, I am extending this line of research to identify teacher competencies that are needed to address students’ individual insecurities, interests, pre-concepts and needs in light of the Anthropocene and the related societal and environmental challenges (e.g., climate change). I also take a look at the adapted role the school subject Geography can (and needs to) play in this context and to what extent a revised view on Bildung can aid in the process of identifying necessary competencies and related changes in the curriculum and/or teacher education.
Core research areas in brief:
- Teacher judgment accuracy (diagnostic competence)
- Geography didactics and its role in addressing current and future societal and environmental challenges (e.g., climate change)
- The concept of Bildung in light of the Anthropocene
