Research groups
ATLAB Regional additive manufacturing laboratory at Karlstad University
Additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D-printing technology provides unique opportunities for resource efficient manufacturing of complex custom objects with features impossible to be manufactured by conventional methods.
CMM - Characterizing and modeling of materials – from nano to macro
The overall goal in materials research is to improve the performance of the materials. It can be mechanical or electrical properties, improved environmental friendliness, or a cheaper production or utilisation of products. Within CMM we are especially focused on areas dealing with fatigue, tribology, additive manufacturing, efficient solar cells, and new carbon based nano-materials.
Computer Science
Our research in Computer Science is mainly focused on Computer Networking, IT security and privacy enhancing technologies, and Software Engineering. For example our research contribute to development of 5G, reducing latency over Internet and to a safer Internet.
GEOMEDIA
Research activities within the Geomedia research group is organized around three research tracks: Mediatization of Space and Culture, Spaces of News Production and Consumption and Tourism and Mobility Studies.
KUFO – THE RESEARCH GROUP FOR CULTURE STUDIES
An interdisciplinary platform for researchers who are active within the culturally focused humanities. The group is held together by its common concern for what we call the Cultural Archive of society, which is to say that we focus on issues concerning the historical and geographical dissemination and preservation of cultural discourses.
PACKAGING FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
Is the package an environmental villain or an environmental hero? Our research concerns packaging attributes that affect food waste and recycling. We have identified a number of attributes and made several calculations if it can be environmentally beneficial to invest in more packaging material if food waste can be avoided.
Pro2BE Processes and Products for a circular BioEconomy
Pro2BE is the research environment at Karlstad University that focuses on the transformation of the present economic/technical culture which is based on consumption of non-renewable resources to a bioeconomy based on circularity of environment-friendly renewable resources and on the development of the forest-industry.
RivEM - RIVER ECOLOGY AND MANAGEMENT RESEARCH GROUP
The group mainly focuses on applied research projects that concern human impact on rivers – valuable natural resources – and how this impact may be minimised.
ROSE - RESEARCH ON SUBJECT-SPECIFIC EDUCATION
The research group is rooted in several academic disciplines specializing in different school subjects. ROSE researchers share a focus on subject-specific education in relation to teaching and learning (what in a European research tradition is termed ‘subject didactics’)
SOLA SOLution-borne materials for organic electronic Applications
Karlstad University is leading this research project focusing on polymer solar cells. Main objective is to understand the role of the molecular interactions in polymer-polymer de-mixing during thin film formation.
