What makes more and more people want to keep track of themselves, their habits, number of steps, weight, health, using apps, bracelets and other fitness trackers? Why do we want to measure ourselves, and also give businesses the opportunity to take part of our private data? These are some of the questions Ph D Student Vasileios Charitsis is seeking the answer to. More and more technologies, apps and gadgets are showing up on the market.

Our choices as consumers are governed by various factors. At the restaurant one of them is the appearance of the person serving us - if the person has a look that is perceived as healthy, we choose the healthy options from the menu. These are the findings from a study made by researchers Poja Shams and Anders Gustafsson. The health trend is growing and we are becoming increasingly aware of what kind of food we should consume to maintain good health.

26-28 August, PhD students and researchers in the Centre for Natural Disaster Science (CNDS)  gathered for the CNDS annual assembly. For the fift consecutive year CNDS met at Sunnersta Herrgård outside Uppsala to make progress reports of individual research projects and discuss common topics such as interdisciplinary research collaborations in the centre. This year we reviewed five progress reports and listened to three research presentations.

Tomas Gustavsson is a teacher in Project Management at Karlstad Business School at our university. He holds a degree in IS. The seminar covers how to develop quantative analyses of project work. Tomas collaborates with a company that offers a web-based project work place that is used by companies like IKEA, ABB, but also many smaller companies and organisations. Presently it hosts 54'000 active projects and since 1998 there are database logs from 174'000 projekt.

The more complex a software system is and the longer it evolves, the more likely the structure and behavior of the system will diverge from the originally intended design.

Günter and advisers at Sony Mobile and Lund University have developed the WozARd system and has received a couple of study visits from us earlier this academic year. In this seminar, Günter did not only speak about Wizard of Oz for development of Augmented Reality.

This is the result so far from the research project “User oriented innovation in Primary Care” conducted by CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University in collaboration with the County Council of Värmland, Sweden. On May 7th, a closing seminar was held where project’s innovation group work was presented for patients and staff at the County Council and Vinnova.
