Hello, Diana Morales, new post doc at CRS…
2019-01-24… from the 1st of January, you are the new post doc at Centre for Regional Studies, CRS. What are your plans?
-I will be here for two years. My research is within the Academy for Smart Specialisation and the project Forests as resources and opportunities in regional development, as well as Innovation for green transition based on the forest as a resource.
What is your background?
- I grew up in the coffee region of Colombia, in the middle of the Andes. I took my undergraduate and masters at Los Andes University in Bogotá, and my PhD studies at the Centre for Urban and Regional Development Studies in Newcastle University in northern England. My thesis is about local development and sustainability. During the autumn of 2017, I was a guest researcher at Linköping University, Centre for Municipality Studies.
What brought you to CRS at Karlstad University?
- When I saw the vacant position, I felt it was so right for my area of interest. The projects connect well to the field which is at the core of my own research – innovation processes and sustainable development at local and regional level in society.
What is your impression of Karlstad so far?
- I really like the cold weather, though the icy and slippery roads are a challenge! It is so beautiful with the nature and water surrounding Karlstad. I like the size of the city, not too small and not too large. My colleagues have given me a warm and friendly welcome. It feels very good.
Diana Morales’ thesis has the title "Regional Co-operation and local and regional development: a comparative analysis of the Coffee Region (Colombia) and the O’Higgins Region (Chile)".
