7.5 HPWelcome as a student in the course Swedish Economic History.
In this course you will learn more about how the western Europe has shifted from one of the poorest corners of the world to economic powers and agenda setters in only 400 hundred years. With Sweden as a particular study object, the importance of economics on politics through time will be studied to explain how and why Sweden became a well-known welfare state, and a role model of nationwide social welfare as well as a wealthy nation. Focus will be on the Economic History of the 20th century Sweden and includes the labour market, family policy, health care and housing strategies as well as education system and industrial capitalism.
The course is conducted in English and has been designed with exchange students in mind. However, all students wishing to gain a broad understanding of the Swedish transformation from a poor to a wealthy nation with focus on the economic history and development of the Swedish welfare state model are welcome to attend.
After the course you will have knowledge:
- in the economic development in Sweden during the last 400 years, as well as basic knowledge of the western Europe development.
- of how to create basic analysis of economic development and its effects on society.
- of the concept of agrarian revolution, industrialization, welfare state from a Swedish point of view.
