ACRO 2017 - International Summer School
On 26 June – 30 June 2017, Computer Science at Karlstad University is co-organizing the ACRO 2017 - International Summer School on Latency Control for Internet of Services.
Modern society is increasingly dependent on ICT systems that tend to evolve into global systems of systems, providing its services based on virtualization technologies to end users. The paradigm shift to Internet of Services (IoS) provisioned on the interconnected Cloud infrastructures opens up numerous possibilities combining and integrating the functionality of a multitude of services offered by third parties. These services are deployed and provisioned automatically and may form large scale service chains upon end user requests. On the other hand, many new services evolve where low latency is key to their success. Examples are cloud control for Industry 4.0 or autonomous driving, network function virtualization, to just mention a few. Dynamically and autonomously provisioned service chains interconnect computational (compute and storage) resources across system of systems, often transferring unpredictable streams of big data. At the same time, modern software and service engineering approaches offer unlimited innovation opportunities in new and open development environments. Current technologies are however lacking effective management and control to provide predictable or controllable latency for those large scale service chains. The challenge is to develop methods and algorithms at all system layers that allow to better manage and control the end-to-end latency of services that are deployed inside multiple cloud systems.
The ACROSS summer school is designed for Ph.D. students studying communications and cloud computing and related areas. It consists of lectures by international experts and includes poster presentations by participating Ph.D. students. Students from all of the world are accepted and welcome to participate. The program covers fundamental, advanced and hot topics in communications and cloud computing. Besides frontal lectures and tutorials, the summer school schedule further comprises hands-on sessions and exercises in Lab Rooms.
