Steels: properties and heat treatments
The aim of the course is to give insight into the microstructure i.e. different phases (matrix and precipitates) and structures of steels, the influence of different alloying elements and heat treatment on the microstructure, and the correlation of these parameters on the final mechanical properties.
The teaching is organized in three basic blocks where each block gives 5 ECTS credits. The first block treats carbon steels. The second block is about more specialist steels and the third block is dedicated to tool steels. Each block contains a number of lectures where the students are examined by a home assignment after each lecture. The student has passed a block by passing all home assignment in the block.
