Nedan följer en kort beskrivning av innehållet (ur baksidestexten):
Can a short writing exercise bring you closer to the person you will be decades from now? And if it does, will you save more, live healthier, or consume more sustainably? Most people know what the future demands of them, yet still favor the present. One reason may be that the distant future self feels like a stranger. This thesis examines whether that connection, known as future self-continuity, can be strengthened. In four preregistered experiments, describing one day in the distant future reliably strengthened the connection but did not change monetary choices. There were, however, tentative signs that participants reported living more in line with their values a week later. Linking surveys to real debit-card transactions from Swedish adults revealed that people who pictured their future selves more vividly held greener, more long-term attitudes, yet their spending was not greener, and no link to saving was detected. Together, the findings show a malleable connection to the future self, consistently linked to attitudes but weakly, if at all, to economic behavior. A strong connection to the future self may be a foundation for behavior change in some, but not all, domains of life.
