Lou Hinterberg: Report about my internship at the Department of Information Systems
2016-10-28Hello!
I am Lou Hinterberg, and I study Information Management (BA) in Hannover, Germany. This programme is similar to the undergraduate programmes within Information Systems at Karlstad University, e. g. Web and Multimedia. Currently, I complete the 7th semester which is my last semester of my studies. This semester doesn’t include any lectures but an internship with a duration of ten weeks. I decided to apply for an internship at the Department of Information Systems to expand my knowledge about usability. Additionally, I wanted to get to know a Swedish university, the country and the people. Luckily, the programme Erasmus+ supports not only semesters abroad but also mandatory internships.
The internship at the usability lab was a great experience for me. I got to know the Ozlab system which is based on the Wizard-of-Oz-method. As a laboratory assistant, I helped with the development of the Ozlab system by testing the system and its recent updates. Additionally, I produced instruction videos showing different functions and advanced the English system manual. I attended some lectures and seminars and learned about the structure and the different tasks within the department.
Now, I will move back to Germany in order to write my Bachelor thesis. As a topic, I want to evaluate the usability of a certain homepage and I want to embed the knowledge and the experiences I have made at Karlstad University.
Especially I want to thank John Sören Pettersson, Malin Wik and Henrik Andersson who supervised and supported me all the time in my tasks. I felt very comfortable while working here and I am grateful to have been included in your team during my internship so well.
