Statistics

The Statistics section offers teaching, research and contract courses in the fields of statistics and mathematical statistics. Courses in statistics are also included in Master and Bachelor programmes, for example, Business and Economics and Computer Science, A great number of distance education courses are also offered.

Statistical methods are used more and more for different purposes, providing support for decisions, overview of operations, and compilation of information. The development of computer technology and the present storing of data have made statistical methods all the more useful in most contexts. Analysing and presenting information on minor investigations to major databases requires knowledge in the subject statistics. Statistics is important and a valuable addition to many degree programmes.

Flexibility in studying is also offered. Students can take an undergraduate course in Statistics 30 ECTS cr on or off campus, or combine the two, taking some modules on campus and others as distance learning modules.

Good basis for future professional activity

Students studying business and economics, computer science, or social and health care also take courses in statistics at various levels of their training to ensure a good basis for their future professional activity. A basic or deep understanding of statistics regarding collecting, processing and analysing data is a very useful qualification.

Practical as well as theoretical statistical issues and problem are treated in our undergraduate courses, including probability theory and inference theory, and students develop understanding of statistical models.

Further studies

Further study in statistics involves advanced statistical theory and various specialisations such as statistical models in econometry and experimental planning. A course introducing multivariate methods is offered, where students learn to handle complex statistical models with several response variables. View our courses via the link “Education” in the left menu.

Our courses are offered on campus and some also as distance learning courses. We also provide tailor-made contract courses for companies, organisations and the public sector. Contact the subject coordinator or head of subject fore more information.
