PUBLIC HEALTH SCIENCE
Doctoral programme in Public Health Science at Karlstad University
Public health science has strong research groups focused on children's lives and health, safety and security, as well as psychosocial working conditions. Several large-scale studies are conducted within these themes, continuously collecting extensive data. This provides security for doctoral students as they can early in their research education engage with existing knowledge banks alongside their own data collection. In this way, doctoral students are naturally connected to ongoing research and research groups. Examples of current dissertation areas include long-term sick leave, bullying and the mental health of children and adolescents, child abuse, interventions for children in need of special support, chemicals and chronic illness in children with a focus on overweight/obesity, asthma and allergies, neuropsychiatric disorders, reproductive disorders, and more.
The doctoral education in the subject is affiliated with the university's graduate school in the field of health, Graduate School of Health.
