Comparative Literature
Doctoral programme in Comparative Literature at Karlstad University.
Comparative literature in Karlstad centres on different forms of transgression in terms of theme, content, and interdisciplinarity. At the moment four doctoral students are working in the discipline, and together they cover a wide range of topics: from poetry and narratology to subject-specific teaching and learning. The doctoral programme in Comparative Literature gives candidates the necessary skills to establish themselves as researchers in the field. Students accepted to the programme are both given the broad foundation needed to pursue their dissertations, as well as the opportunity to specialise in the areas of their degree projects.
The doctoral programme includes a course in literary theory and method, an individual literary history course, as well as reading courses adapted to students’ needs. In addition we encourage doctoral students, if possible, to participate in some of the national doctoral courses offered by Comparative Literature departments, or to take part in courses offered jointly in the Nordic countries.
