The usability lab, Ozlab, has been frequently occupied this spring, among other thins for eyetracking-surveys, updating of the manual and introductionfilms. From the latter half of January we had two German students as internships for 10 weeks, Antonia Appel and Jakob Kümmerle, from DHBW, Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg. They helped students conducting various projects on undergraduate and master level with eyetracking equipment.

Daria Tonetto from Italian InfoCert visiting the usability lab during a break in the CREDENTIAL project plenary meeting at Karlstad University in April 2018. InfoCert are conducting user evaluations on their LegalMail pilot demonstrator within the project, while Karlstad University develops and tests user interfaces for the general CREDENTIAL Wallet functions.

This January, two students from the Cooperative State University in Stuttgart (DHBW-Stuttgart), Fabian Jaskotka and Kai Langenekert, joined the Usability Lab at Karlstad University. Fabian, from Hamburg, and Kai, from Backnang, have never been to Sweden before.

During the winter and spring, a new graphical user interface for the web-based Ozlab have been launched. The new user interface allows the ‘wizard’ to build the shell more easily and Ozlab is also easier to manoeuvre in the ‘test runner mode’.

This programme is similar to the undergraduate programmes within Information Systems at Karlstad University, e. g. Web and Multimedia. Currently, I complete the 7th semester which is my last semester of my studies. This semester doesn’t include any lectures but an internship with a duration of ten weeks.

Lou Hinterberg, who studies Information Management in Hannover, Germany, will have a ten week internship at Information Systems department at Karlstad University, starting 8th of August, mainly working in the usability lab. Karlstad University is in the process of switching to a new CMS.

Part of Information Systems visited Nursing Science and their Clinical Centre. On Wednesday the 8th of June, Malin Wik, John Sören Pettersson, Bridget Kane and Henrik Andersson visited Nursing Science and their Clinical Centre. Anders Sidenblad, Nursing teacher and doctoral student at IMH at Linköpings university, hosted a demonstration of their training mannequin. The Clinical Centre trains students in clinical decision making using a realistic mannequin.

Hedmark University of Applied Sciences visited Karlstad University and, among else, had a guided tour in Karlstad university's usability lab. Hedmark University of Applied Sciences (HUAS) visited Karlstad University (KAU) during two days, 9-10 June. HUAS has many projects together with KAU. HUAS is one of the project partners in the ongoing project, CriseIT, together with KAU.

Henrik Andersson and Rasmus Nim each presented a paper with poster at the Student Interaction Design Research conference in Malmö, Sweden, 1-2 April, 2016. Henrik presented a pilot study from summer 2015 when he worked within a EU project at Computer Science dept. at Karlstad University.

Loredana Sundberg Cerrato from Dublin gave an intriguing seminar on February 10, 2016. Loredana, who also presented the ADAPT centre in Dublin this day (see post on the web pages of Information Systems), gave an in-depth view on research on dialogue supporting machine translation between languages for the HCI group and Master students. Bridget Kane, PhD, has pursued research within Health Informatics and CSCW at Trinity College and St. James Hospital in Dublin. During the spring 2016 she will help students who write HCI theses in English. She will also contribute to the master course Models and Methods for Multimedia Development. She has a post-graduate diploma in Statistics and will assist in the research education during this spring.

The Business Research Lab at the University of Wollongong has now got its own Ozlab installation. In December 14-16 our lab assistant Malin Wik is supervising the installationen of the web-based Ozlab. Associate Professor Rodney Clarke directs the Business Research Lab at the University of Wollongong.
