M4D2014 the 4th HumanIT conference on Mobile Communication for Development was held in Dakar, Senegal, April 7-10. John Sören Pettersson together with other HumanIT researchers track chairs. John Sören also made a demonstration of a local WiFI setup of the new web-based Ozlab.

Internship in the lab

As a part of a course (Informations Systems: Practical Training 7.5 ECTS credits) two Web and multimedia students, Jonatan Jansson and Erik Knutsson, completed their internship in the Usability Lab. Their tasks included development of the new web Ozlab system. For example, Jonathan and Erik developed functions that simplify the shell building process.

During the fall of 2013, students on the course ISGC16 "Usability testing, prototyping and evaluation" were asked to evaluate "My Page" at Karlstad University's website through user tests. "My Page" was tested in two iterations with 30 students users. "My Page" provides features for students such as course registration, sign up for exams, and exam results.

The Ozlab system has been used for many years by Karlstad University researchers when exploring interface concepts and paradigms for computer applications. Thanks to the incorporation of the Wizard of Oz technique researchers could simulate functionality without spending time or resources on programming. Though, as time went by, our tool needed updating. Therefore, the Ozlab system is now being redeveloped towards a web-based system.
