Scopus AI trial access

Scopus, a database containing bibliographic records and citation data, has recently launched an AI functionality in its service. Scopus AI is an add-on that is not included in the regular offering of the database, but KAU now has access to it on a trial basis for four weeks (October 7th-November 6th , 2024).

During September, the library has a trial period for the AI tool Research Assistant available in the Web of Science database. Read more about the tool Log in to Web of Science The tool is developed by Clarivate, and the hope is that it will make it easier for researchers to find relevant documents in the database by allowing them to ask questions in their own language, get help finding relevant journals, generate visualizations and subject maps, etc.

The library now subscribes to the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Communication. The library now subscribes to the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Communication. It is a digital encyclopedia that contains over 500 peer-reviewed articles with research / area overviews in all aspects of communication.

As of July 2018, Swedish universities have limited access to journals from Elsevier, one of the world’s largest scientific publishers. However, employees at Karlstad University can still access new articles through the interlibrary lending service, ”Get it now”. Magazines published by Elsevier between January 1, 1995 and June 30, 2018 are still available through the usual channels.

Swedish universities, including Karlstad University, have decided to terminate the agreement with Elsevier, one of the world's largest scientific publishers. The reason is that the parties did not agree on open access Elsevier is one of the world's largest scientific publishers. In 2017, Swedish universities paid approximately 120 million SEK for subscriptions to electronic journals to the publisher, of which Karlstad University accounted for almost 1.2 million SEK.

This week we will start a relocation project. Books that currently are placed in numerical order (2015: 344), will be relabelled and placed by subject. The books will be marked with a subject code and a sequence number, for example V 2011: 1 or Im 2017:20. This will make it easier both to find books by subject, but also to find newly acquired books. The relocation of the books are expected to be completed by autumn semester 2018.

During October and November the library has a trial period on Sage Research Methods video collection. SAGE Research Methods Video contains 480 videos, including tutorials, case study videos, expert interviews, and more, covering the entire research methods and statistics curriculum. Search SRM Videos

The language café

The language café at the university library will continue during the spring semester 2018. The language café will take place every tuesday between 4 pm - 6 pm. The time and place are the same but now students are in charge of the café. The Language Café is aimed for anyone who wants to improve there spoken Swedish, but you need to be able to speak and understand some Swedish to participate.

All course-reference books and reserved books now need to be borrowed before taking them out of the room. This applies to all reserved books and course-reference books that are placed in room 1 E 225. Borrow the books in the selfcheck machine by scanning your Kau-card, or by entering your Swedish ID number/library card number, and your pin code. When you have finished reading the course-reference book please return it in the self-return machine.

From 1 January 2017 the library no longer subscribes to Wordfinder. Instead you can find dictionarys in many languages through Nationalencyklopedien (NE). Go to the library startpage and click on Encyclopedias, then choose "Norstedts ordböcker via NE" in the menu. On the NE page, choose "Tjänster" in the top menu, and then "Ordböcker". Direct link
