Music Theory– KKM
Applicants shall also demonstrate their knowledge in a music theory exam. The theory exam will take place on site at the Ingesund School of Music 18-22 of March 2024. The exam consists of three parts: Music and notation (ear skills), music fundamentals and writing four-part chordal background/harmonic analysis.
PART 1, MUSIC FUNDAMENTALS:
The purpose of this component is to assess your knowledge of music theory. In this subtest, you will demonstrate your knowledge of common concepts and ways to term and notate, for example, octave positions, intervals, chords, keys, time signature, and time value of notes and rests.

PART 2, MUSIC NOTATION (EAR SKILLS):
This part of the exam is designed to assess your ability to identify music by ear in relation to reading music. In the first section, you will listen to musical examples with vocals, where you are to notate melodies.
In the second part of the exam, you will listen to a piece of music performed with instruments, and based on various answer options, you should choose the melodies, rhythms, and chords that you believe correspond to what you hear.

PART 3, HARMONIC ANALYSIS AND FOUR-PART CHORDAL BACKGROUND-WRITING:
This section includes harmonic analysis and writing a chordal accompaniment (voice leading). You will be given a started four-part arranged melody to analyze with functional or scale degree symbols (like Roman numerals). Then, you are to write a continuation in the form of four background voices based on a given chord progression.
