Master of Science in Energy and Environmental Engineering
300 ECTS credits
Study programme
Climate impacts and rising energy prices mean that the environment and energy issues are becoming increasingly important. There is great need to make energy use more effective, economically viable and good for the environment. As an MSc in energy and environmental technologies, you can work nationally and internationally to create energy efficient products and systems. Solid knowledge of environmental engineering, energy processes, fluid mechanics and heat and mass transport is necessary to create energy-efficient systems. Your ability to see environmental and energy systems from different perspectives is necessary to develop processes and products that promote sustainable development. Your broad expertise can be used in many different areas of work, and is therefore of great value to many different types of businesses as well as governments and international contacts.

Education
You meet committed teaching staff by the National Agency describe, "to have an impressive holistic approach to learning." We give priority to education in dialogue instead of one-way communication to a large lecture hall. You will also learn to work in projects and managing group dynamics in order to be equipped for business work. In the end of the program you choose an area for you to specialize within. You get you a broad expertise in energy and environmental technologies, where knowledge of optimization of energy transformations is central. You meet the technology practical both in the laboratory and in industry. You read the theory needed to develop technologies that are more energy efficient, more economical and less environmental impact. Technology courses interspersed with practical and research-projects and expansion in areas such as design, materials or industrial economics.
Form of Instruction
Instruction is given in the form of lectures, classes, practices, laboratory work, and as project work under supervision.Examination
Examination usually takes place at the end of each course, module, or unit. There are no set examination periods, and generally no final exam at the end of a semester, an academic year, or a complete study programme.Study Abroad
We encourage our students to read parts of the training abroad. During the program's seventh semester is there a block of elective and optional courses. Many of our students choose to study that semester at another university abroad. Contacts can be mediated by central functions for International Studies at Karlstad University. The program's students have historically shown great interest in doing thesis work in a developing country.
Professional Contact
In connection with projects students are introduced to one of the programme partner companies or any other suitable company, one of which will very likely play a part in the completion of a degree project.Course of study
