School Development
10.0 ECTS creditsThe course covers issues relating to goal attainment in educational organisations and the creation of conditions conducive to school development. This entails discussions of the complexity of school leadership in an idea-based organisation. One central component is the content and structure of the national policy documents and the underlying ideological standpoints.
The participants are also given tools to extend and enlarge their understanding of the responsibilities of the principal in relation to goal attainment and school development. Further, participants develop their ability to communicate goals, to problematise and analyse school results, and to apply scientific principles in continuous quality assurance development. Other important areas include the relationship between goals and available resources, i.e., prioritising on the basis of available resources.
The course comprises three progressive components, with a special focus on individual development:
1. Working in a non-profit organisation.
2. Goal-based and results-based management and quality assurance work.
3. The responsibilities of the principal in relation to pupils' individual development and results.
The course is taught in accordance with the principles of experience-based and problem-based learning. Course participants are therefore expected to work actively to problematise the issues raised, to address their own experiences, and to relate these to various theories and models.
The teaching takes the form of field studies, case studies, practical exercises, participation in group supervision
sessions/peer supervision, lectures, and independent reading.
