Incontinence Care
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course integrates nursing 3.75 ECTS cr and medical science 3.75 ECTS cr
Instruction is in the form of lectures and seminars. All instruction pays attention to the scientific foundation and evidence-based knowledge of the field.
Students enhance their knowledge of incontinence care with respect to medical science and nursing in order to prescribe the medical supplies needed for incontinence, urinary retention or bowel incontinence for children, adults and the elderly. Students learn more about urogenital and rectal anatomy and physiology as well as the diagnosis, examination and treatment of incontinence, urinary retention or bowel incontinence. Different incontinence supplies and disposables are presented and demonstrated in terms of how to use, prescribe, document and evaluate them. Students reflect on and relate to current legislation, health economical and ethical aspects and to current evidence in the field. Based on the patient's life situation, health promoting measures and self-care support, students practise their ability to instruct patients and their next-of-kins pedagogically.

Swedish Licence to practise as a nurse, physiotherapist, midwife or equivalent. Upper secondary level Swedish 6 or B/Swedish as a second language 6 or B, and English A.
