Family, child and student health care
15.0 ECTS creditsThe course integrates Nursing (5 ECTS cr) and Medical Science (10 ECTS cr) on campus, in the virtual learning environment, and during the clinical placement. Instruction is in the form of lectures, individual study, group work, seminars, and clinical placement (VFU, 6 weeks).
Different somatic and psychiatric disorders and health risks among children and adolescents are treated, along with appropriate interventions and treatments. Functional impairment and development disorders as well as neuropsychiatric conditions are studied along with rehabilitation and child habilitation. Students also study support interventions for children, adolescents and families with special needs in conjunction with other actors.
The course covers the most common methods for literature study (such as systematic, integrative, and scoping), analysis and compilation of results, literature searches and search strategies in connection with a research project, and critical assessment of the results of a literature search. Research ethical problems and considerations are discussed in terms of legislation and regulations relevant to research in nursing.
The role of the primary care nurse in health promotion among families, children, and adolescents is treated in relation to current national and international regulations.The UN convention on the rights of the child is treated in relation to sustainable social development and health equity among children and adolescents. Areas in public health and preventive care are treated in relation to the national public health objectives, with a special focus on health problems, risk environments, and risk behaviour.
During their clinical placement, students study the work and patient-oriented leadership of the primary care nurse in relation to the organisation of child healthcare and the school health care team, and develop their professional approach to and independence in the professional role.
The learning outcomes related to the clinical placement and the component CPR for children are assessed Pass (G) or Fail (U).

Nursing licence issued by the National Board of Health and Welfare and a nursing degree of at least 180 ECTS credits (including a degree project of 15 ECTS credits) or a Bachelor degree in nursing (including a degree project of 15 ECTS credits), at least 24 months of full-time work experience as a licensed nurse, plus upper secondary level Swedish 3 or Swedish as a second language 3 and English 6 or A, or equivalent
