Wave Physics and Optics
7.5 ECTS creditsPeriodic oscillations: amplitude, period time, wavelength, frequency, phase, position, velocity, acceleration, forced oscillations, resonance, damping.
Plane, circular, and spherical waves: longitudinal and transverse waves, mechanical waves and electromagnetic waves.
Wave construction: the wave equation, the superposition principle, Hyugen's principle, Fourier analysis.
Basic wave properties: wave energy, phase and group velocities, wave packets, refraction, diffraction, standing waves, interference, beat tones, dispersion.
Sound: the human hearing, musical instruments, the Doppler effect, acoustic impledance.
Light: mirrors, lens systems, polarization, index of refraction, double refraction, the human eye, optical aids and instruments, resolution, the ray model, the wave model, the photon model.
Instruction is in the form of lectures, exercises, and mandatory laboratory sessions.

Admission requirements:
General entry qualifications, including Fysik 2, Kemi 1 and Matematik 4/D, alternatively Fysik nivå 2, Kemi nivå 1 and Matematik-fortsättning nivå 2.
Selection:
Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
