Teaching in Swedish Higher Education: An Introduction (SHE)
Target group
The course aims to provide doctoral students and newly appointed teachers with educational and professional backgrounds from countries other than Sweden with an introduction to higher education in Sweden and to the Swedish university system.
Duration
10 hours, of which approximately 3 hours are scheduled.
Content
The focus is on making both formal structures, regulations and responsibilities visible, for example the role of the university as a public institution, as well as more informal academic, pedagogical and cultural aspects of teaching in Swedish higher education.
The course is structured in three parts.
- First, a pre recorded introductory film on higher education in Sweden and issues that are particularly important to be aware of as a teacher or doctoral student.
- Second, an individual assignment in which participants observe a teacher in a teaching situation and conduct an interview.
- Third, a concluding digital seminar where the themes of the course and the participants´ experiences are discussed collectively.
The course is intented to function both as an introduction and as a forum for reflection and exchange of experiences among participants with diverse backgrounds.
