Four computer science students at Karlstad University have been recognized for their exceptional project work in the Software Engineering course. The project team, comprising Jonatan Altebro, Viktor Hajto, Martin Ramnér and Elmar Gebre Yekuno, earned high praise from faculty for their professionalism and innovation. The team developed GoldenYears, an Android application designed to support elderly users in maintaining their physical, mental, and emotional well-being.

The PhD Mini Conference (doctoral colloquium) will be held at Karlstad University on October 22-23, 2024, alongside the main FEKIS conference. The PhD Mini Conference starts on October 22 after lunch (following the FEKIS PhD course in the morning), and will be held in a constructive, collaborative, inclusive and friendly environment. The PhD Mini Conference will commence with a keynote of an internationally recognised research leader.

Our society is based on economic growth. With growth comes increased consumption, higher energy costs and use of resources. Without growth, unemployment goes up. By early summer, Kevin Larsson will graduate with a bachelor's degree in music production from Ingesund School of Music. Kevin grew up as far south in Sweden as you can get, specifically in Ystad.

On December 17, 2010, Mohamed Bouazizi, a Tunisian street vendor, set himself on fire as a protest against the autocratic regimes in his Arab country. Bouazizi’s act was captured on film and quickly spread throughout the world. The images and film clips of Bouazizi triggered protests and demonstrations against regimes in other Arab countries. Bouazizi set in motion an uprising against Arab regimes that is known as the Arab Spring.

Live case studies are a good way to learn and provide a feeling of being in a professional setting. In the course Business Development from a Process and Partnership Perspective, students at Karlstad Business School have been given the opportunity to collaborate with several organisations. Students have been helping to map out business processes and develop improved work procedures using digitalisation.

BIOGRAPHY I work as a professor, voice teacher, researcher and head of subject of Classical Voice at Ingesund School of Music. I did my Master of Fine Arts at the Royal Acamdy of Music and the University College of Opera, both in Stockholm. I continued my studies at the University College of Opera in Stockholm in 1991–1995.

Where do you start with innovation? Typically, with a goal in sight – a pre-defined outcome. From here you can forecast what you need to get there; search for, select and invest in the most suitable skills, technology, and other types of resources in a step-by-step manner. This is a conventional causal decision-making style for firms. Conversely you can start with what you already have – existing means – and then creatively work out potential outcomes with these. This is bricolage.

During the DEBUTING project, ten regions across Europe will collaborate on issues related to gender, diversity and inclusion in the design of policy tools. This is to support SMEs to increase their business capacity and sustainability by implementing an inclusive culture based on gender equality. DEBUTING is an Interreg Europe-funded project that started on 1 March 2023 and runs for four years until 28 February 2027.
