Tobias Hübinette
Research
I am a member of the Karlstad University-funded Research Group for Culture Studies (KuFo) and I was previously responsible for the Forte-funded Research Network for Swedish Critical Race and Whiteness Studies and for the Swedish Research Council-funded research project Racializing Sweden: Narrative Constructions of a New Swedishness. The Swedish Research Council-funded research project The Swedish r-word: Uses and negotiations of the terms race and racism in contemporary Swedish online and social media discourse concerned the years of 2020-23 and was conducted together with Peter Wikström. My research interests concern critical race and whiteness studies, visual studies and postcolonial theory, cultural studies and critical theory, adoption research and migration studies, and Korean and Asian studies.
Teaching
I am teaching at various campus and distance courses in Swedish and in English within the disciplines of intercultural studies, comparative literature and gender studies and I am leading seminars and supervising students at different levels.
Collaboration
I am among others a member of Alliance for the Study of Adoption and Culture and Antiracist Academy.
Bio
I have a high school exam from Platen School in Motala (humanities line, fully classical variant) and I am educated at Uppsala University, Södertörn University College and Stockholm University with a B.A. in Irish Studies and an M.A. in Korean Studies as well as a PhD degree from the latter university in Korean Studies and I am a Reader in Intercultural Education at Södertörn University College. I have worked as a researcher at the Multicultural Centre in Botkyrka and as a teacher in Intercultural Education at Södertörn University College and I have held several positions and assignments in South Korea, at other Swedish universities and outside academia.
