Jans research interests lie mainly in method development within GIS and remote sensing frameworks from a sustainability and climate adaptation/mitigation perspective, with the overarching goal of improving the well-being of humans and other living organisms on our Earth through development of technical solutions and contributions to the scientific knowledge base.
Jan teaches several undergraduate courses in the two programmes:
Engineering: Surveying Technology and Geographical IT (180 ECTS)
Programme in Surveying and Mapping (180 ECTS)
Jan is co-supervisor to a few PhD-students.
Jan collaborates with different disciplines at Karlstad University such as Biology, Risk and Environmental Studies, Centrum for Societal Risk Research (CSR) and Centrum for Research on Sustainable Societal Transformation (CRS), other Swedish universities and with public authorities, e.g. MSB, the Environmental Protection Agency and the Swedish Transport Administration.

Jan Haas holds a PhD in remote sensing and geographic information technology (GIT). He is a senior lecturer in Geomatics and active in research projects at Geomatics and amogst others at the Centrum for Societal Risk Research (CSR).
