Finn Nilson

Finn Nilson's research revolves around society's risk management, in particular from the individual's perspective. Finn has a background in public health and injury epidemiology, which is also reflected in the research. Specifically, the research is related to different perspectives on injury, injury prevention and societal safety. For example, issues related to fires, falls or traffic accidents but also more general aspects such as event safety or sport safety.

The research can be broadly grouped into two areas. The first area involves the study of risk and protective factors as well as the underlying causes of injuries. The second area is the evaluation of various social injury prevention measures.

Increasingly, Finn's research has come to focus on society's and the individual's relationship to risk and risk management. In particular, this applies to the relationship between objective and subjective risk, as well as the relative importance of risk management and societal safety in relation to other social processes and values.

Finn was previously the Chair for Risk and Environmental Studies and Director for Centre for Societal Risk Research. He is now working part-time at Karlstad University as he is guest Professor at Marie Cederschiöld University 

Finn teaches within the Masters program "Risk Management in Society", mainly within public safety and risk management theory. He also runs two courses for professionals within event safety.
