Media and Communication Studies

In Media and Communication Studies the focus is on the role of media in society and the conditions of media production, content and audience. Media and Communication Studies is an interdisciplinary subject that draws on theory and method of the social sciences and humanities.

The subject is characterised by its global orientation and has two research profiles: (1) Communication, Culture, and Identity and (2) Media, Democracy, and Citizenship. Doctoral students quickly become acquainted with the core of the academic conversation on current media and communication issues through participation in research seminars. The department cooperates with other subjects at and outside of Karlstad University regarding doctoral courses and supervision.
