Welcome, Stephen Ackroyd, Emeritus Professor at Lancaster University, UK
2026-01-30Stephen Ackroyd is a sociologist by training and aptitude. Now retired from teaching, he is Emeritus Professor at Lancaster University, UK, where he taught sociology and organisational studies for more than 30 years.
Stephen Ackroyd has also researched and written about the changing forms of organisations in the UK and their connection with broader systems of economic and political relations.
– I hope to discuss my early research findings with Karlstad Business School staff, particularly patterns of change in large firms and whether similar trends exist in Sweden, says Stephen Ackroyd. I would also like to meet undergraduate students, share insights from the new edition of my book, and am willing to give two lectures if useful. With postgraduate groups, I look forward to conversations on research methods and to highlighting the value of creative thinking in social science methodology.
Stephen has long-standing ties with Karlstad University. He first visited during his tenure as visiting professor at Stockholm U in 2004 and has been back several times since. On this visit he will be teaching undergraduates, talking at the KBS Doctoral Academy and interest staff in his latest research on large British formations.
