People, culture and society in focus at Humanistdagarna 2025
2025-09-23Karlstad University, together with Värmland Museum, invites you to Humanistdagarna 2025 on 8–9 October – an open event where researchers, authors and cultural figures share their perspectives on language, history, culture and society. Guest lectures include Maja Hjertzell, writer of children’s and young adult literature, and Leif Stinnerbom, director and manager of Västanå teater.
Humanistdagarna offers two days of lectures and discussions on a broad spectrum of topics related to the humanities. There will also be poetry readings and music entertainment.
The programme includes researchers and lecturers from Karlstad University and Värmlands Museum, as well as guest speakers. Maja Hjertzell will discuss challenges surrounding reading habits among children and young adults, and Leif Stinnerbom talks about his perspectives on Västanå teater.
– It’s really exciting that Humanistdagarna has turned into a recurring event, says programme coordinator, Hanna Enefalk, senior lecturer and docent in history at Karlstad University. One of the news this year, is that we’re working together with Värmlands Museum, which is a welcome addition. And we will, of course, be watching the live broadcast when they announce this year’s winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature!
The humanities provide keys to understanding our contemporary world
For the third consecutive year, Humanistdagarna is organised by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at Karlstad University. The event aims to offer insight into the humanities and their impact on the world around us, while also presenting research in the field.
– Humanities research is crucial for understanding the times we live in – how people and societies act in a crisis, how we can create justice and how we deal with complex issues such as energy and sustainability, says Hanna Enefalk. But the humanities are also about the human aspects of everyday life: play, fiction and imagination. Our programme reflects both the scope and relevance of humanities research. We hope to enlighten, inspire and spark curiosity. If the participants leave the event feeling that the world is bigger than they thought – and want to know more – then we’ve succeeded!
