Limited accessibility when bus stops are rebuilt
2025-04-25(Updated 16 May) Karlstad Municipality is rebuilding bus stops at Kronoparken, starting in May. During the work, there will be limited access to the streets. At the university, Sommargatan is closed to car traffic. At the stops near Kronoparkskyrkan and Klarinettgatan, traffic will be regulated by traffic lights.
The reconstruction is part of Karlstad Municipality's work to extend the Karlstadsstråket express bus line between Ruds bytesplats and Välsvikens station, via Kronoparken and Karlstad University.
During the reconstruction of the bus stop at the university, it will be closed to car traffic between the two roundabouts north and south of the bus platform. Only public transport, emergency services and goods transport can pass, other traffic will be redirected according to signs on site.
The existing pedestrian crossings in connection with the bus stop at the university will be closed during the work. The temporary pedestrian crossing over Sommargatan will instead be further north, in the direction of the health center. Signs on site show how to get around safely.
On Thursday, May 15, reconstruction of the stops near Kronoparkskyrkan, on Sommargatan, also began. There, the road is open in one direction at a time and is controlled by traffic lights, which can cause long queues when many people are driving to or from the university and the residential areas north of it at the same time.
The bus stops at Klarinettgatan, south of the university, will also be rebuilt. The work will begin in August and is expected to last until the beginning of November, according to the municipality's traffic information. There, too, accessibility will be affected and traffic will be regulated with temporary traffic lights.
