Kau-släppet: a new spring tradition
2025-04-14Following last year’s success, the race Kausläppet has now become something of a tradition as part of the Walpurgis Night (Valborg) celebrations at Karlstad University. Last year, close to 100 people took part in the race.
– We are hoping for at least 200 this year, says Felix Edrud.
He and Ebba Pettersson are in their second year of the Sports and Health Coaching Programme. As part of the programme, they are now doing five weeks of practical training by planning and organising Kausläppet, together with the Student Health Services.
– It’s a great way to spend our practical placement period, as it is an activity that creates community and offers a sober alternative around Walpurgis Night, says Ebba Pettersson.
– Yes, it feels good to create a sober alternative, and it’s also fun to get the chance to organise a race like this. It’s a great combo where we get to contribute to a positive atmosphere and sense of community here at the university at the same time, says Felix Edrud.
– We are organising events around the race as well. And if you don’t feel like running, you are welcome to come as a spectator and cheer on the participants, säger Ebba Pettersson.
The setup is the same as last year, which was the first time the event took place, initiated by the Student Health Services. The race starts at the outdoor gym next to House 21 and covers a five kilometre track in the woods north of the university, finishing back at the outdoor gym. The female winner and the male winner will receive a prize, and other participants will have the chance to win additional prizes through a raffle.
And you do not have to run to take part. You are also welcome to walk and simply enjoy the arrival of spring.
Last year, almost 100 people participated, of which about half were staff and half were students.
– We’re hoping to reach at least 200 participants this year and are working on promoting the event. Among other things, we are collaborating with several student associations that also want to promote better health and encourage exercise among students, says Felix Edrud.
– We are also marketing Kausläppet in Gläntan, we have created posters and brochures, and we have started an Instagram account, says Ebba Pettersson.
