International Conference on Privacy and Cybersecurity
2024-08-28Karlstad University, together with the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity (ENISA) and the European Data Protection Supervisor is hosting the hybrid conferences Annual Privacy Forum and IPEN 2024, September 3-5.
With over 400 participants, the conferences are expected to bring together privacy experts, engineers, lawyers, researchers, and policymakers from both the private and public sectors.
"It is the first time that the conference is being held in Sweden, and we hope that it will put Karlstad on the privacy and cybersecurity map again. We want companies to become more aware when it comes to privacy and data protection, and we believe the conference will contribute a lot of useful information. A large part of the program will be dedicated to artificial intelligence and the risks associated with how algorithms are used, for instance in healthcare," says Meiko Jensen, Senior Lecturer in Cybersecurity.
The European Data Protection Supervisor, Wojciech Wiewiórowski (EDPS), advises EU institutions and bodies on all matters related to the processing of personal data and compliance to relevant regulations like the GDPR. He is responsible for monitoring and ensuring the protection of personal data and privacy when EU institutions and bodies process individuals' personal information.
"On the first day of the conference, the European Data Protection Supervisor and Karlstad University will host an event on human supervision of automated decisions as part of the Internet Privacy Engineering Network (IPEN). We will have panel discussions on the topic, as well as presentations by well-known keynote speakers in the field of cybersecurity," says Meiko Jensen.
The other two days of the conference will be organized in collaboration with ENISA, which is the European Union's Cybersecurity Agency. ENISA works with organizations and companies to strengthen trust in the digital economy, make the EU's infrastructure more resilient, and ensure that the EU's population is safe online.
