Honorary Doctor Brian Hudson lectured on knowledge-led teacher education
2025-10-16On October 15, Karlstad University was visited by Brian Hudson, newly appointed Honorary Doctor of Education. Brian is Emeritus Professor of Education and former Head of the School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sussex. During his visit, he delivered a lecture titled “A critical knowledge-led approach to curriculum research and teacher education across school subjects”, followed by a reception where participants had the opportunity to discuss his research and experiences further.
Since 2015, Brian Hudson has been actively involved in teacher education research at Karlstad University, particularly within the interdisciplinary research environment Rose. His broad expertise in subject didactics and extensive international experience have been of great importance to the development of the research community. His research has primarily focused on mathematics education and the use of digital tools, as well as how these influence curricula, teacher education, and teachers’ professional development.
Honored for his contributions to teacher education
At the lecture, Brian was introduced by Marie Nilsberth, Vice Chair of the Teacher Education Board, who emphasized his significant contributions to both teacher education and Rose.
– It is not easy to introduce someone who has done so much for teacher education, and especially for Rose. Your scholarly insight, your encouraging and engaging attitude, and your constructive ideas have helped us move forward, and we are deeply grateful for your contributions.
Brian expressed his gratitude for being appointed Honorary Doctor of Education and described how honored he was to share the day with colleagues and newly appointed professors connected to Rose.
Brian will receive his award on October 17, when the university celebrates its Academic Celebration.
