Hello there, Sarath Raveendran PhD student in computer science
2024-11-05Sarath, tell us about your research
– I will focus my research on applying Data Science to drive Sustainable Business practices. This topic aligns with my background in data science and my commitment to creating environmentally and economically sustainable solutions.
In what way do you think your research can contribute?
– I aim to enhance customer satisfaction by ensuring timely delivery of products that meet their needs, minimizing material waste, and reducing costs through optimized resource allocation. This research is crucial for businesses committed to sustainability and for society as it emphasizes responsible production.
What have you done previously and what made you apply to The Service Research Center (CTF) at Karlstad University?
– With a BTech in Mechanical Engineering, I began my career ensuring compliance with green building regulations for sustainable construction, spending a decade as a Mechanical Engineer. My growing interest in data-driven sustainability led me to pursue an M.Sc. in Applied Data Science, which opened the door to a role as a Data Analytics Engineer at Volvo Cars through DevPort AB. There, I focused on agile data analytics, particularly in sustainability initiatives like lifecycle assessments and recycled content tracking in the automotive industry.
– The PhD position titled "Data Science for Sustainable Business" at Karlstad University caught my attention due to its unique strengths. I was drawn to Karlstad’s focus on service research and sustainable development, fostered through the Center for Service Research (CTF), where academia and industry collaborate. This dedication to tackling real-world challenges through interdisciplinary research and innovative solutions—especially in sustainability and data science—made Karlstad University the ideal choice for my PhD journey.
