The Geomedia Day 2025
2025-05-19On May 15, 2025, the annual Geomedia Day was held at Elite Stadshotellet in Karlstad. A full day of insightful discussions, research presentations and creative collaboration.
André Jansson opened the event with a welcome address, followed by an update on the upcoming 2025 Geomedia conference from Georgia Aitaki.
The morning continued with a workshop session focusing on the Geomedia Panel data. The session was divided into three parts: an introduction to the interview data by Karin Fast; group work with some of the collected material, and a joint discussion around key themes.
After lunch, four researchers presented reflections based on their ongoing research under the headline “Geomedia Temporalities and Futures”:
- Henrik Bergius explored the intersection of digital luddism and sustainability.
- Lena Grip examined how teleworking influences gender equality.
- André Jansson discussed the “logistical turn” in media studies.
- Linnea Saltin presented findings on the use and non-use of VR headsets in Swedish households.
The Geomedia Day then transitioned into a creative workshop led by Éamonn McCallion, encouraging participants to engage in hands-on exploration of Geomedia concepts and values, using Lego.
– I think that this was one of the best Geomedia Days, thus far, says André Jansson. The activities reflected the evolving landscape of geomedia studies and highlighted the dynamic and collaborative spirit of our research community.
