The latest developments in system integration were presented at an international conference in Mexico
2026-02-18The SII 2026 conference focused on system integration – how hardware, software, and various technical subsystems are combined into functional wholes. This is a central area within modern robotics, automation, industrial systems, and smart technologies, including applications in health, manufacturing, and energy.
– I participated in this year’s conference as Program Co‑Chair, says Jorge Solis, Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering. We received a record number of submissions: a total of 389 scientific papers and 49 Late Breaking Reports. More than 100 Associate Editors were assigned to review each submitted contribution.
Based on the scientific peer‑review process, only about 73 percent of the submissions were accepted, resulting in a very high standard of presentations.
– Thanks to our collaboration within MIRAI 3.0, we were able to attract world‑renowned researchers from Kyushu University and Waseda University in Japan, as well as a sponsor from a Japanese company. It is highly valuable for Karlstad University to participate in these international contexts, both for our education and our research. During the conference, I also co‑organized a workshop on Co‑adaptive orchestration of human‑robot teams for Society 5.0, featuring invited speakers from UC San Diego, Kyoto University, and Standard AI, says Jorge Solis.
The conference is part of the recurring symposium series organized by IEEE/SICE and is described as a “premier symposium” in system integration, where researchers and experts share ideas and experiences related to cutting‑edge technologies and solutions. IEEE stands for the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, one of the world’s largest professional technical organizations, focusing on:
- electronics
- computer engineering
- robotics
- telecommunications
- systems and control engineering
IEEE is a global leader in standards, research, and conferences in technology and engineering. SICE stands for the Society of Instrument and Control Engineers, a professional technical organization with more than 60 years of history, focusing on measurement, control engineering, systems and information technology, system integration, industrial applications, and life engineering.
