AGILE LEADERSHIP (Business administration) 7.5 ECTS CREDITS
Agile Leadership is a course aimed at those who want to improve their ability to lead in a complex and changing world.
Successful companies and organisations distinguish themselves by creating new innovations and adapting to changing conditions. This course provides students with tools to help companies and organisations be more innovative, effective collaborators and adaptable to rapid changes.
Students learn to create agile organisations and high-performing teams, as well as support self-organising teams. You will also learn how to make effective decisions.
The course looks at agile leadership from three levels
Individual level: You will improve your leadership skills and understand how to act in an agile environment. You learn how to support teams and handle complex situations.
Group level: You gain insight into what characterises high-performing teams and how you can contribute to joint responsibility within a team.
Organisational level: For the organisation, the course means advantages in terms of innovation and agility and effective use of the organisation’s staff resources.
The course combines theory and practice through various media - including lectures, exercises and interaction - which suits students who are curious and want to interact.

BUSINESS BY WEB AND WEB ANALYTICS (Business administration and information systems) 7.5 ECTS CREDITS
Different approaches to conducting business by web are considered in this course, which draws upon perspectives from both business administration and information systems subjects to discuss the concept of business by web in relation to systems development and business goals.
Creating websites from a visitor perspective, analysis of website traffic, which pages visitors search for or navigate to, and analysis of where they give up without completing, for example, a form or check-out process are aspects of the course. Students will develop a good understanding of website visitors; as users of a website and how to see them as more than customers or consumers of products and services.
Students will also
- discuss marketing and business communication in relation to digital media
- discuss the value of web-based enterprise solutions,
- develop a deeper understanding of how to analyse the usability of websites and apps
- apply introductory data analysis methods
- improve their skills in writing texts for the web, and analytical texts for both academic use and internal purposes within an organisation
Experts from local businesses with international focus contribute professional experiences to seminars.
COMMUNICATION FOR WORKING LIFE (Business administration and HRM) 7.5 ECTS CREDITS
Communication for working life is a course for students who are aspiring for a strong start in their career. Students explore, work with and practise communication in a variety of ways. From influencing others through effective presentation skills to leading meetings and succeeding in job interviews – the course covers it all.
Listening and understanding are as important as the ability to present. The course focuses on developing these skills and students immerse themselves in the different aspects of communication and improve their leadership skills, how to collaborate effectively with others and successfully present ideas. An invaluable asset regardless of where you are in the world.
In addition to general entry requirements, curiosity and courage to take an active part in the course are essential. We will interact a lot during the course, so prepare to engage in discussions and activities.
The course Communication for working life combines theory and practice where different media – lectures, exercises and interaction – are used to give students an all-encompassing experience.
INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT (Business administration) 7.5 ECTS CREDITS
This course is aimed at students who are interested in deepening their understanding of global business dynamics and the challenges and opportunities that come with globalisation. This broad perspective is crucial for all students aiming for a career in an increasingly interconnected global economy.
The course is up-to-date and relevant, addressing global issues such as trade negotiations and the dynamics of different trade blocs for international commerce. Using practical activities, students explore business problems that companies face, evaluate different government trade policies and develop strategic business models for international markets. Students will be equipped with essential skills and insights that increase their competitiveness in the job market.
The lecturers at Karlstad Business School have experience of working in different cultures in Europe, the Middle East/Asia, Africa, and America, and the course also includes international guest lectures where students are introduced to new perspectives on a contemporary business environment. This provides students with relevant tools to successfully navigate the challenges posed by international business.
A large part of the course involves evaluating complex scenarios and designing strategic responses to real-life business challenges. Students develop their ability to reflect and critically discuss international business themes. You can expect a solid educational experience that combines lectures, seminars, problem-based learning, group work, presentations and individual studies.
HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT IN A GLOBAL CONTEXT 7.5 ECTS CREDITS
The course introduces a critical approach to International Human Resource Management (IHRM), with a special focus on the importance of considering issues of work and employment in a global context.
Aspects such as sustainability, gender, diversity, technological development, changing global relations, and the potential role of HR are presented and discussed. Instruction is in the form of lectures and seminars where different themes related to International Human Resource Management are treated.
