The Geomedia Day 2026
2026-05-27A full day filled with insightful discussions, research presentations, and creative collaboration.
The Geomedia Day 2026 offered a diverse and engaging program where current research and creative methods took center stage. The day began with a welcome introduction by André Jansson, Professor of Media and Communication Studies and Director of the Centre for Geomedia Studies at Karlstad University.
– This is one of the highlights of the year, when we gather for a full day that combines both serious and lighthearted elements – from research-related discussions to more playful exercises focused on our field. It’s a day that brings us together as a group, says André Jansson.
During the morning, several new research projects in geomedia were presented. Linda Ryan Bengtsson introduced the KK project Beyond the Spotlight, which highlights sustainability issues within the event industry and focuses on how change agents can be strengthened. Doctoral student Simon Tuhkunen presented his work on algorithmic mediatization, exploring how algorithms shape media landscapes and societal processes. Peter Wikström presented a collaboration with the Embracer Games Archive under the title Boxes, Booklets, and Bonus Contents, where gaming artifacts and archival materials contribute to new research perspectives on game culture and media history.
Cornelia Brantner and Georgia Aitaki led a workshop titled From Pixels to Peace, where participants were introduced to creative methods for studying everyday understandings of peace. The session combined theory and practical exercises and provided space for reflection and discussion.
